Alex’s Story

19th June 2013

It was at a local conference where I met Alex, he attended the Sunday school choir and coincidently there was a lady sat next to me that day who knew him quite well. Throughout the conference she began to explain to me how Alex had been struggling for food, accommodation and school tuition, as she continued speaking to me I knew I had to do something.

I approached Alex and began speaking to him; it was within fifteen minutes that I invited him to KCC. We spent the following weeks pursuing court orders that would allow him to legally stay at KCC permanently, to our success it was agreed Alex could live at the centre.

Despite the good news, it was a difficult transition for Alex within the next few months that were to follow. He enjoyed being a part of KCC but struggled to process his past and previous lack of parenting, despite these struggles Alex did however develop a strong faith and within weeks began leading others in praise and worship. He found a passion for music and writing music, we have enjoyed his talents so much that we have the famous ‘Africa’ song used within our Destiny Africa tours.  From moving into KCC he knew he wanted to take his musical talents seriously and become a qualified musician, he pursued his dream relentlessly and today we can proudly say he has graduated from studying music at college!

We are proud to have seen Alex’s journey of self-discovery and see the rewards of pursuing his dreams, he is a shining star and example to those around him. Alex now teaches at college two days a week and works with Destiny Africa as one of our leading musicians within the American and European tours. Alex plans to continue his studies to achieve a masters qualification in music to then run his own music studio in Kampala to inspire and help others with similar dreams as his own.

We would like to thank Alex’s sponsors Mark Coleman and Dr. Marijke Hoek who have helped to care for Alex financially to achieve his dreams, we couldn’t thank you enough.

Well done Alex!
