Happy Mothers Day

1st March 2014

This Mothers Day we would like to take a moment to mention the wonderful work our K.C.C house mothers achieve and give you the chance to help support the work they do.To share their journey we took some time to interview Harriet, mother to eleven children at Kings way house.

Why is it important is it for these children to have a mother?
For me I feel that it is very important for our children to have a good mother. Many children were left in slums with no care and they didn't receive their mother love which is so vital. So it’s really important for me as a mother to give them all my love, that they may forget where they came from and the loneliness they experienced.

"The best part of being a mother to these children is to change their lives, to give them comfort and to guide them"

What’s the best part of your role at Kampala Children's Centre?
The best part of being a mother to these children is that I have the privilege of impacting and changing their lives for the better, to give them comfort and to guide them that when they grow up they will be self-affluent.
What are the biggest challenges you have faced?
The different families, tribes and cultures that the children come from pose the greatest challenge to me. When a child comes to K.C.C they know only the environment they have come from, therefore they bring many behavioural habits with them which require understanding and teaching from myself. For example many children were previously not taught personal hygiene.
What changes have you noticed in the children from when you first met them?
They have really changed a lot, some didn't know how to dress and they didn't eat but when they came here they started dressing up, eating and going to school. The children would often suffer with health problems but now when you look at them they are happy and healthy children. The children originally feared you and would look downward but now the children tell you their stories and open their heart. It is encouraging to see a person change and forget their painful experiences from their past, it is marvellous that these children are really having a brilliant life now and they are very happy.
From the open hearts and countless hours given so freely, our mothers have nurtured our children back to life and truely given them a new start and hope for the future

We would like to give you the opportunity to meet our urgent financial need and enable our K.C.C mothers to continue in the inspirational work they do.
